Presence
Commissioned for JAM on the Marsh festival, my first solo exhibition, Presence, was shot in Kent’s Romney Marsh during the pandemic. The area is known as “The Fifth Continent”, in part due to its unique topography of shingle spits and sound mirrors, lost villages and low-lying churches.
As we emerged from a prolonged period deprived of human contact, the creative process became a search for signs of life – a fleeting figure, a still-warm seat, a flower growing amid the stubble. The title was also a reminder that the best pictures come you are truly present; there, in the moment, and alive to possibility.

Presence was shot on location in Kent’s Romney Marsh between 2020 and 2021. The 35mm film frames were scanned by the Take It Easy lab in Leeds and edited in Photoshop.
